Project Proposal
The place that I have decided to intern at is in an art gallery called Gallery 14 in Vero Beach, FL. What they do there is showcase all sorts of different kinds of art, from sculptures to beautiful canvas paintings. One large role that they play in the community in Vero is something that they do every month called an art walk, which is basically all the galleries in the area (this is in the "art district" of Vero) get together and host a large scale show to promote the artists that display their pieces. People come from all over the place apparently to check it out.
My mentor for this project is a lady named Cheri Cruden, one of the co-owners of the gallery that I am interning at. I am hoping that she can teach me to be a better, more well-rounded artist, as well as give me a few tips on how I might go about displaying, marketing, and selling art, if I choose to do so.
The way that my LINK internship relates to my goals in life is because I think it would be awesome to be able to become an artist at some point. I think I have decided that that is what I want to go to college for, to study art.
For my project I plan to incorporate work that I was doing on a Humanities project that was started not too long ago. This would mean that I had chosen to do an art piece depicting a scene from the book A Tale for the Time Being, by Ruth Ozeki, in which one of the characters, who was a kamikaze pilot, crashes their plane into a wave, rather than a US fleet ship.
For now, I think that my current skills will sufficient to complete my project. I have quite a bit of experience when it comes to art, but I hope to learn a lot more from my mentor.
I think that the steps that I need to take to be able to complete my project would be to lock myself down fora set amount of time to work on my project. If I do this, I think that I would be able to finish the actual project relatively fast, leaving more time to learn from my mentor.
When trying to set up my link internship with a mentor, I didn't actually any problems at all, or none that I know of anyways. I was able to find a mentor very fast and they had been able to accept my proposal very quickly, which was nice.
I think that the overall experience will be very fun, or at least I hope it will. When I think about it, I get really exited to be able to experience something like this, mainly because it's something that not a whole lot of other students get to do.
